James Cameron Still Hopes to Direct Battle Angel Alita in Future

By Samantha Simmons

James Cameron has said that although his adaptation of Battle Angel Alita took a backseat with Avatar, Cameron is not willing to give up the project.

In an interview with Joshua Horowitz on MTV Rough Cut, Cameron described Battle Angel Alita as a “great, kick-ass story,” but felt that Avatar was the better choice.

“It was a coin toss at that point,” said Cameron. “But I see the good that the Avatar franchise can do in terms of keeping a world audience cognizant of our relationship with nature, but doing it in an entertainment context … There’s more good to be done there.”

Cameron said that he has no plans to give up the story to another director.

According to Cinema Blend, Cameron announced plans for Battle Angel Alita in 2005. Like Avatar, Battle Angel Alita was to premier as a 3D film with never before seen advanced technology.

No information has yet been released when audiences can expect Battle Angel Alita to begin production as Cameron still plans to focus on Avatar sequels.
